Effective Tips to Help Children Regulate Their Behavior

“Kids not behaving well” is one of the most prominent concerns of today’s parents. And though most parents feel that it is necessary for their kids to learn the right way to behave, it so happens that despite all the efforts, not much improvement is seen in the behavior of the young ones. We, at Gurukul The School, believe that it is certainly essential for children to learn and adopt the right behavior as it helps them in being socially responsible and also aids them in making good decisions. However, an important aspect that is often overlooked is that children are more like reflective mirrors. They replicate whatever they see, hear, and observe. Hence, before we go on to teach children to behave in a good manner, it is necessary to ensure that they are provided with a positive, nurturing environment. Parents need to particularly take a note to provide the kids with a warm, responsive environment at home where kids are encouraged and empowered and are not merely scolded day and night. Let us delve deeper into the topic in this article below and have a look at some very effective tips that can help you regulate the behavior of your kids:

Be a Role Model

Needless to say, parents are the role models for kids. You may not even know, but their eyes and ears always remain open to grasping whatever you say and do. Hence, if you want your child to use basic etiquettes like saying sorry, please, and thank you, it is you who has to take the lead first.

Stay Honest

You can get closer to your kid by making him/her know how exactly you feel due to his/her specific behavior. For instance, if you are not able to concentrate on your work due to the noise, then instead of saying “keep quiet!” try, “I am really upset as I am not able to complete my presentation due to so much noise.”

Sing Praises

Regulating the behavior of kids is not only about refraining them from doing what is wrong. It is also about showering appreciations when they do anything good. Do not wait to appreciate every single good job accomplished by your little one. It will boost their confidence to do better in the future.

Be an Attentive Listener

Always pay attention to whatever your child is trying to tell you, irrespective of whether it sounds logical to you or not. Make eye contact so that your child stays assured that you are listening as well as understanding. He/she will feel respected and relaxed too. This technique is very effective as it helps the kids in coping with painful emotions like frustration and anger.

Keep Your Promises

Try your best to fulfill the promises that you have made to your kid. This also means that you shouldn’t simply promise for anything and everything to avoid any short term arguments with your little one. Making promises and then breaking them later on gives a wrong impression to kids, and may further provoke bad behavior in them. Instead, if you keep your promises, it will result in positive behavior and will bolster your child’s trust in you.

We, at Gurukul The School, one among the Top Five Schools in Ghaziabad, believe that behavior is one thing that speaks a lot about an individual’s intellect and mental framework. Hence, just as much is the importance of teaching good behavior to children, it is equally vital to ensure that there remains no gap in providing them with the right guidance and environment. It is necessary that kids are taught the difference between acceptable and unacceptable behaviors, and know the consequences if they continue portraying bad behavior. At Gurukul, we not only encourage and appreciate good behaviors and responsible acts put forward by our students but have also ensured that no one from the staff gets involved in any bad behavior as well. We have carved a warm and loving environment where children are nurtured to the core and due emphasis is given on their holistic development in the truest sense of the term.
